Privacy Policy

The short version

Snapplings doesn’t ask for your name, email, or any personal details. You play anonymously. The photos you snap are sent to an AI to invent a creature, and a small copy is kept among your own Snapplings. There are no ads and no third-party trackers. We collect as little as possible.

Who we are

Snapplings (“the app”, “we”) is a game that turns photos of real objects into collectible creatures, available at snapplings.com and in app stores. This policy explains what data the app handles and why.

What we collect

  • An anonymous account. When you first open the app, a random anonymous ID is created so your Snapplings can sync and appear on the leaderboard. It contains no personal information — no email, no name, no login.
  • Photos you capture. When you snap an object, the photo is sent to an AI service to work out what it is and invent a creature. A small thumbnail of the source object is then stored among your own Snapplings so you can see what each creature came from. The camera is only used at the moment you choose to capture.
  • Your Snapplings and gameplay. The creatures you make (their artwork, names, stats, lore) and your progress (streak, daily hunt, achievements) are stored on your device and backed up to our database under your anonymous ID.
  • Leaderboard data.An auto-generated handle (for example “GlowingNimbus42”) and summary stats (how many creatures you have caught, realms discovered, best rarity, score) are shown publicly on the leaderboard. These are not personal to you.
  • Limited technical data. Like any website, our hosting and security systems briefly process your IP address to prevent abuse and rate-limit usage. We keep an anonymous daily count of how many creatures are generated overall.

We do not collect your name, email, phone number, contacts, or precise location, and we do not use advertising or third-party analytics trackers.

How we use it

Only to run the game: to turn your photos into creatures, to save and sync your Snapplings, to show the leaderboard, and to keep the service working and prevent abuse. We never sell your data.

Services we rely on

To provide the app, your data is processed by a few trusted providers:

  • Anthropic — analyses your captured photo to invent a creature. Photos are processed to generate your result and are not used to train their models under their commercial terms.
  • Vercel — hosts the app and runs the AI image generation (which receives only a text description, not your photo).
  • Supabase — provides the database and anonymous accounts that store and sync your Snapplings and leaderboard stats.

Sharing

Your leaderboard handle and summary stats are public by design. If you choose to share a creature or your Snapplings, you create and send that image yourself. Otherwise we do not share your data with anyone except the service providers above, who only process it to run the app.

Children

Snapplings is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because play is anonymous and no personal details are requested, no account information identifies a child. If you believe a child has shared something they shouldn’t have, contact us and we will remove it.

Keeping and deleting your data

You can release any creature in the app, which deletes it from your device and our database. Clearing the app’s data (or uninstalling) removes the copy stored on your device. To delete your anonymous account and all associated data from our database, contact us at the address below and we will remove it.

Security

Data is sent over encrypted connections, and our database uses row-level security so each anonymous account can only access its own Snapplings. No system is perfectly secure, but because we hold no personal information, the impact of any issue is limited.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under GDPR or the CCPA), you may have rights to access or delete your data. Since we hold no information that identifies you personally, the practical way to exercise these is to delete your in-app Snapplings or to contact us for full deletion of your anonymous account.

Changes

We may update this policy as the app grows. We will change the date at the top, and significant changes will be noted in the app.
